18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering, said to Him,

'Are you only a stranger in Jerusalem, and have not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?'

'What things?'

'What things?'

Psalm 24

7 Ye gates, lift up your heads on high; ye doors that last for aye, be lifted up, that so the King of glory enter may.

8 But who of glory is the King? The mighty Lord is this; ev'n that same Lord, that great in might and strong in battle is, ev'n that same Lord, that great in might and strong in battle is.

9 Ye gates, lift up your heads; ye doors, doors that do last for aye, be lifted up, that so the King of glory enter may.

10 But who is he that is the King, the King of glory, who is this? The Lord of hosts, and none but he, the King of glory is. The Lord of hosts, and none but he, the King of glory is.

'Jesus shall reign where'er the sun'

Hymn by Isaac Watts. Tune by Francis Duckworth, 'Rimington', arranged by Peter Duckworth

Isaiah 58

⁶ 'Is not this the fast that I [God] have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you all break every yoke?

⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out, to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you hide not yourself from your own flesh?

⁸ Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rereward [guard behind].

⁹ Then shall you call, and the LORD [Jehovah] shall answer; you shall cry, and he shall say, 'Here I am'.

If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity [inflated pride in oneself];

¹⁰ And if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light rise in obscurity, and your darkness be as the noonday:

¹¹ And the LORD shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make fat your bones: and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters fail not.'

Daniel 12:2

'And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.'

'Worthy, O worthy are You, Lord!'

Georgie and Sashi sing -

Worthy, O worthy are you, Lord,
Worthy to be thanked and praised
And worshipped and adored.

Singing hallelujah!
Lamb upon the throne!
We worship and adore you,
Make your glories known,
Hallelujah! Glory to the King!
You're more than a conqueror,
You're Lord of everything!

Lyrics in full

1 O boundless salvation! deep ocean of love,

O fulness of mercy, Christ brought from above,

The whole world redeeming, so rich and so free,

Now flowing for all men, come, roll over me!

2 My sins they are many, their stains are so deep,

And bitter the tears of remorse that I weep;

But useless is weeping; thou great crimson sea,

Thy waters can cleanse me, come, roll over me!

3 My tempers are fitful, my passions are strong,

They bind my poor soul and they force me to wrong;

Beneath thy blest billows deliverance I see,

O come, mighty ocean, and roll over me!

4 Now tossed with temptation, then haunted with fears,

My life has been joyless and useless for years,

I feel something better most surely would be

If once thy pure waters would roll over me.

5 O ocean of mercy, oft longing I’ve stood

On the brink of thy wonderful, life-giving flood!

Once more I have reached this soul-cleansing sea,

I will not go back till it rolls over me.

6 The tide is now flowing, I’m touching the wave,

I hear the loud call of the mighty to save;

My faith’s growing bolder, delivered I’ll be;

I plunge ‘neath the waters, they roll over me.

7 And now, hallelujah! the rest of my days

Shall gladly be spent in promoting his praise

Who opened his bosom to pour out this sea

Of boundless salvation for you and for me.

Jude 1

²⁰ But you all, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, ²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

John 15

 ³ Now all of you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you.

⁴ Abide in me, and I in you.

As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can all of you, except you all abide in me.

⁵ I am the vine, all of you are the branches:

he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit:

for without me, you all can do nothing.

Ephesians 2

¹ And you has he quickened [brought to life], who were dead in trespasses and sins; ² wherein in time past you all walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience [unbelief, rebellion]: ³ among whom also we all had our conversation [interactions] in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you all are saved;) ⁶ and has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: ⁷ that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

⁸ For by grace are you (all) saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: ⁹ not of works, lest any man should boast.

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.

Titus 3

¹ Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, ² to speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness to all men.

³ For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

⁴ But after the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; ⁶ which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; ⁷ that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

⁸ This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that you affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Ephesians 2

¹⁸ For through him [Jesus Christ] we both [Jewish and all other nations] have access by one Spirit to the Father.

¹⁹ Now therefore you all are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; ²⁰ and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; ²¹ in whom all the building fitly framed together grows into an holy temple in the Lord: ²² in whom you all also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

1 Peter 2 vv 1 - 12

¹ Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, ² as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that all of you may grow thereby: ³ if so be you all have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

⁴ To whom coming, as to a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

⁵ all of you also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

⁶ Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture,

'Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be confounded.'

[Isaiah 28 v 16]

⁷ To you therefore who believe, he is precious: but to those who are disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, ⁸ and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them who stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

⁹ But you (all) are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;

[Exodus 19 vv 4 - 6]

that you all should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

[Isaiah 9 v 2; 60 vv 1 - 3]

¹⁰ who in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God:

[Hosea 1 v 10; 2 v 23]

who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

¹¹ Dearly beloved I beseech you, as strangers and pilgrims abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; ¹² having your conversation [interactions] honest among all other nations: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Matthew 21 (start v 33)

⁴² Jesus said to them,

'Did you (all) never read in the scriptures,

'The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner;

[Isaiah 28 v 16]

this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

[Psalm 118 v 23]

⁴³ Therefore say I to you,

'The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

⁴⁴ And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.'

⁴⁵ And when the chief priests and Pharisees [religious leaders] had heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them.

⁴⁶ But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
